DOUBLE THE SPEED
of a
PDP 11/45, 11/50 or 11/55

Many Singer Link flight simulators are used around the world for both military and commercial airlines. The PDP 11/45 and 11/55 were used on many of the simulators including those for the 727, 737, 747 and several military jets and helicopters.

PROBLEM: The closer to "real time" you can get, the better the simulation is for pilot training. Even though the PDP-11/45 was one of the fastest machines for real time applications, it was still limited for such a complicated function as full flight simulation. The "fastbus" resident programs would run three times the speed of "Unibus" resident memory, but 64 Kbytes was the maximum DEC could provide.

SOLUTION: Use a full compliment (256 Kbyte) of ABLE SCAT/45 "fastbus" memory .

Many of the "heavy duty" simulators used dual processors to achieve the highest performance possible. Even with that, it sometimes was sluggish.

These same type of "real time" systems were used for accelerometers to monitor and control particle acceleration.

Flight instructors and pilots would get excited about the performance improvement of their simulators. You can't blame them. Practicing as close to the "real" world gives them much better chances for safety.
