ServeMaster - LAT ethernet terminal servers

ABLE provides two types of LAT ethernet terminal servers; the PL550 emulation of the DECserver 550 for large line fault tolerant and reduced cost wiring distribution and the ServerMaster series for those who require fewer lines but do require modem connectivity or special serial line protocol support.

The ServeMaster series support non standard baud rates such as 50, 75, 100 & 200 as well as all the standard ones up to 57.6 Kbaud. Supporting 5 to 8 bit characters is pretty fundamental, but the ServeMaster can activate an option that takes the incoming 5 bit Baudot and converts it to ASCII before it transmits to the ethernet and converts ASCII received from the Ethernet to 5 -bit Baudot output. Since ServeMaster firmware is in FLASH ROM, ABLE can easily support your custom protocol needs.

* models with parallel ports support both Data Products & Centronics printer interfaces. A cable adapter is required for Data Products printers.

When the need arises for a large number of serial ports to connect to the ethernet, there is no better LAT terminal server than the PL550. The PL550 is 100% software compatible with the DECserver550 system while offering superior performance and features.

DECserver550 takes 27 inches of rack space, can only support 64 ports with modem control (128 without), all cable for all serial ports are nested at the server itself, and the system must be shut down to replace 8 or 16 line modules interrupting the access of all other users.

The PL550 is a 4 inch high table or shelf mount device that has a single twisted pair wire that can remotely place MuxMaster ® serial port concentrators either in a distributed arrangement or in a rack mount centralized arrangement that allows for "on-line" replacement of modules and supports a redundant power supply system for minimum down-time.

Using a PL550 in combination with EASYway ® serial networking products allows for additional capabilities of port-contention, load balancing, redundant configurations with manual or automatic fail-over and support for remote site multiplexing and WAN support to secure wire group connectivity through fiber optics.
