There are many military hospital sites around the world using ABLE's MuxMaster products with various DEC (Digital Equipment) systems. The one shown below is an example of one of the larger, more complex ones. The initial CHCS contract stipulated a minimum echo response time for user terminals of less than 10 milliseconds - The ABLE MuxMaster was the ONLY solution available that would allow that specification to be met.

PROBLEM: Install provide a robust system that would have minimum down town and provide a centralized data center to mixed military (Army,Navy, Air Force) Clinics at remotely located bases within the region of the central hospital center. The added problem was - wiring. In old buildings, running cable can be very expensive - especially if it is specialized communication cable.

SOLUTION: Using the ABLE MuxMaster work area concentrators and EASYway networking products, a solution was put together that was nearly paid for by JUST THE SAVINGS IN WIRING COST.

Each port concentrator was left with unused ports for expansion and line failure. The DS016 concentrators set up with RJ12 connectors using DEC MMJ pinouts. This allowed connection of DEC terminals with the minimum of wiring problems. In many areas, both local to the main complex as well as in widely dispersed base clinics, the MuxMaster concentrators were literally placed outside in the weather. Wiring was run and stapled inside and outside using non-wiring specialist.

The site has since expanded to over 4000 ports and with changing DEC systems, was able to instantly attach to Ethernet requirements by merely moving existing cable connectors to ABLE PL550 DECserver550 replacements that are MuxMaster ready.
