Port Contention & Resource Sharing
the EASYway ®

The DP or MIS manager always gets the blame when system response time is too slow and it seems that all the calls come at once!

PROBLEM: Limit resources so that too many casual users don't effect getting "real work" done.

SOLUTION: An EASYway NC480 network exchange is a simple low cost solution.

Normally a single cpu application uses a cpu attachment such as the SCSImaster and up to 128 ports distributed on MuxMaster WC16 work area concentrators. If more are needed, an additional SCSImaster is added and more WC16s.

In the example above the cpu couldn't actually handle a full 128 users, much less the 160 shown. The multi-user system would slow to a crawl if even more than 48 users logged on at the same time. Most users are sporadic in their usage and the problem didn't show up until a 50% expansion in personnel began to show a dramatic system slowdown.

Adding more cpu power was not considered cost effective. Instead, the EASYway NC480 was added and programmed to have ports selectively placed into varying sizes of user groups. This allowed a higher number of ports to share a smaller number for the casual users, while reserving another group for more important functions, and even another group for the exec's. It resulted in all complaints being eliminated with good system response.

Most people will try again if a line is busy - what they won't tolerate is the call going through and always getting a bad line!
