DV16 Communication Mux
handling character protocols
for offtrack betting systems

One of the world's most advanced betting systems is located in the orient. In less than 300 total hours of racing time a year, well over 10 BILLION dollars is processed. Using thousands of multidrop modem lines, subscribers get to place their bets within seconds of gate time.

PROBLEM: Using DEC Unibus based systems, develop a fault tolerant system that can handle hundreds of protocol links to multidrop modems for offtrack betting. Space, Maintainability and reliability are the key elements for success.

SOLUTION: Use the ABLE DV16 communication multiplexor that emulates the DEC DV11 while taking HALF the backplane space, with on board and software diagnostics that overshadow the DEC capability while still offering a lower cost solution.

Each DV16 has sixteen ports, each handling over 100 multidrop modems. The amount of data moved at POST TIME is incredible.

The DV16 emulates the DEC DV11 and is one of the more complicated devices that DEC ever created. Capable of handling different protocols simultaneously on all ports, a mixture of both synchronous and asynchronous lines and protocols such as bisync, ddcmp and other character oriented protocols.

Another application that would have taken longer, cost more and may not have been possible without technology from ABLE.
